What were your reactions to “Do The Right Thing,” the first movie in our Social Justice Film Series this semester?

-How are different racial and ethnic groups portrayed in relation to one another?

-How do material possessions define and reflect identity? (for example, Buggin’ Out’s shoes, Raheem’s radio, and Sal’s pizzeria)

-What is the “right thing” referring to? Who does the right thing? Does anyone? Is there a right thing?

This semester, we’ll be showing four feature films that deal with social justice issues as a series. After each screening, we’ll provide discussion prompts via Tumblr and Twitter (@lcpub).

Pluralism & Unity Board Presents: SPEED DATING

Do opposites attract? Come find out at the Pluralism and Unity Board sponsored Speed Dating session on February 13th!

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, you might just find the hipster/jock/hippie/musician/nerd/artist of your dream—or at least make some new friends—at this night of mingling and conversation. This event will break down the barriers that might have stopped you from approaching people outside of your respective clique (even if you’re its only member!).

At the very least, you’ll gain a new appreciation for the nuances and quirks of the students at LC and at the very best, you’ll develop relationships you hadn’t before thought possible.

Did we mention FREE DESSERT AND DRINKS?

Here’s how it will work:

When you arrive, you’ll find name tags that list stereotypical Lewis & Clark cliques. Choose the one that you think others might perceive you to be in. Of course, labels are only skin deep, and as you talk with people from different groups your job is to show a side of yourself that isn’t immediately apparent - you’ll be debunking common conceptions while at the same time gaining insight and finding commonalities with people from different groups.
